The turbine’s metal skeleton is done, but in order for the turbine to perform its task and produce electricity, it is necessary to incorporate the active components of the energy conversion. Our sponsor Grundfos has donated us a horizontal multipurpose pump with a maximum flow rate of 82.4 m3 / h at 4.6 m and 1400 rpm! The pump is modular and has a frequency converter. The frequency converter is a device for continuous change of electric motor speed, and our frequency converter will enable us to manage and control process sizes.
The pump will be placed on the supporting structure of the test station, between the upper and lower water pool. To dampen vibrations, the pump will be mounted on rubber washers and secured with bolts. The role of the pump is pumping water from the bottom pool and returning water to the upper pool. This will allow re-use of water and minimize water consumption.
Their pump will allow us to start testing our turbine. Pictures are in photo gallery :).
